Role Purpose

Reporting to Head of Regulation and Permitting, you will be fulfilling a key strategic role in supporting the transformation of Natural Resources Wales to deliver future regulatory activities. As an organisation, we are responsible for protecting people and the environment by regulating activities such as water, waste, industry, nuclear, marine, forestry. We assess compliance against permits and licences that we issue and undertake enforcement activities against those who breach the regulations.

We need someone who can help us bring together and assess the detailed technical analysis and strategic information associated with our work. This is to ensure that our internal Regulatory Community is clear with regards its priorities, the 1-2 year programme of work, its financial basis, resource, workforce planning objectives and overall strategic direction.

We will need you to use your specific knowledge of the regulatory work and business planning acumin to provide advice and guidance on our future planning requirements and project manage and implement these to meet the requirements of our Regulatory Business Board and Regulatory Principles.

Qualifications and Skills

• Relevant Degree
• High level of personal and professional credibility internally and externally.
• Experience of representing organisations in the public arena.
• Experience of building networks and relationships with senior representatives at a national level.
• You will be expected to keep up to date with changing regulatory policy and proposed changes to legislation via membership of a relevant professional body or other equivalent means.
• Expert knowledge and substantial experience of relevant regulatory activities.
• Technical analysis and interpreting a range of environmental information and data; analysing large data sets using advanced excel. 
• Working in a programme and project management environment.
