Officer 2 – Hazardous Waste Regulation

Welsh language requirements:  Desirable Level 4 – Essential Level 1

Role Purpose

An exciting opportunity to contribute to the protection of the environment of Wales, working within the North East Wales Waste Regulation team. You will be working as the hazardous waste lead within the team. Primarily the role will be assessing waste producers’ compliance with the Hazardous Waste Regulations, auditing classification of waste, record keeping, consignment note completion and associated data returns. Additionally, you will be expected to assist other officers with assessment of hazardous waste compliance at permitted sites. You will be working as part of an all Wales virtual team using data to conduct compliance campaigns and other projects.

This is a dynamic and rewarding role acting as the primary contact for hazardous waste producers in North East Wales. You will have the opportunity to advise and influence them on issues such as waste prevention and pollution prevention. This will play a key role in delivering the Sustainable Management of Natural Resource principles and improving the wellbeing of local communities and the Welsh environment.

The role will include both site work and office-based working, with occasional travel to other offices.

You may be asked to participate in incident response as part of an in and out of hours rota.

Qualifications and Skills

Knowledge and experience of working as a regulator.

Understanding of commercial business processes and pressures.

Ability to communicate effectively with regulated business and the public, explaining issues and gaining support by influencing.

Current full UK valid licence required to drive NRW fleet vehicles (cars and vans)
