Senior Environmental Project Manager / Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA)
We are seeking an enthusiastic individual to join the National Environmental Assessment Service (NEAS) to provide a range of support services and help drive forward the delivery of a wide range of flood and coastal risk management works in the South and East of England, including the Thames Estuary through the Thames Estuary Asset Management (TEAM2100) programme. The role will help develop new projects, ensure that environmental outcomes are maximised, assist in the development of partnerships and provide guidance to internal flood risk management teams.
The support work that NEAS provides to the EA's Area teams is increasingly seen as critical in the successful delivery of outcomes on the ground. Through the role you will increase the level of environmental understanding in the Area teams, foster excellent working relationships and ultimately drive the delivery of environmental outcomes on the ground. TEAM2100 aims to reduce the risk of tidal flooding to 1.3 million people and £275 billion worth of property value by refurbishing and replacing tidal flood risk assets in the Thames Estuary.
NEAS manages the environmental assessments and consents for the flood projects that the Environment Agency builds. You will be part of a team of environmental project managers and specialists who work closely with specialists from across the Agency, statutory bodies, consultants and contractors. Through close working with our Area clients you will ensure that projects and programmes have minimal environmental impact, uphold high standards in environmental design and contribute to national and regional environmental targets.
You will be a confident individual with a good working knowledge of flood risk management and environmental issues. You will have experience in the identification and management of environmental risk and a track record in delivering social and environmental outcomes. You will be able to demonstrate an ability to communicate effectively with Area staff at all levels and with a variety of external partners and stakeholders. Your influencing and negotiating skills will be well developed and key in ensuring that environmental matters are effectively understood. You’ll be a champion for the environment and a strong leader with regard to environmental risk management. You will have experience reviewing statutory environmental statements and coordinating environmental impact assessments. You’ll be qualified in a relevant environmental or engineering discipline, as well as having, or be working towards, professional membership of an appropriate professional body e.g. IEMA, CIWEM, CIEEM.
