Senior Windfarm Development Planning Adviser

  • Contract type: 3.5 Years - This is a permanent appointment to undertake a time-limited role until 31 March 2021 date. When the project ends the post holder will be managed in line with NRW redeployment procedures

You will be part of a high performing service which delivers for customers and the environment.  A service with a strong team ethic in which your specialisms are recognised and valued.

Your main responsibility will be the delivery of advice on windfarm developments in North and Mid Wales.

You will also play a pivotal role in ensuring that the advice we give on strategic plans and individual development proposals will protect the environment as well as ensure the sustainable management of our natural resources.

Your excellent interpersonal skills and your environmental expertise will also be key as you mentor and coach other members of the team.

You will be part of the Development Planning Advice Service team in North Wales, to deliver timely co-ordinated advice which supports the ecosystem approach to the use of Wales’ natural resources, specifically to:

  • Provide a one stop facility for planning customers and internal statutory advice for other internal licences and permissions
  • Deliver an efficient and effective Development Planning Advice Service for customers
  • Influence Forward Planning. 
  • Provide pre-planning advice to developers and for internal projects.
  • Lead on Nationally Significant Infrastructure Projects.
  • Provide co-ordinated responses to development control consultations.
  • Lead on appeals and enquiries.
  • Provide protected species advice for planning and licensing.
  • Support NRW strategy implementation through the function of the team.
  • Influence local development planning and engagement with the development community.

Job Specific Criteria: Essential

  1. Education to degree level or equivalent in a relevant discipline or relevant vocational training in a related discipline.
  2. Strong and effective self-management, organisational and project management skills, delivering results to timescales
  3. Excellent inter-personal and communication skills at all levels, including the ability to write clear, concise documents and give presentations.   Experience of engaging and negotiating  with senior level  external customers
  4. The ability to assess development proposals for possible impacts on the environment.
  5. Strong knowledge of environmental legislation, especially for planning and environmental protection.  A detailed working knowledge of Development Planning Processes

Strong ability to coach and mentor staff.  Working within a team.
