Health & Safety Manager
Our client, a leading provider of healthcare waste management services, is looking to recruit a Health & Safety Manager to cover the Southern region. Main duties will include: • Work within areas in a facility to ensure safe working conditions and interact with team members and management to continually reinforce safe work practices, pointing out both issues and encouraging positive behaviour. Promote good safety culture. • Conduct facility audits to defined schedules or as directed. Perform comprehensive hazard analysis and provides training and/or reinforcement of site specific health and safety policies and procedures. • Ensure all safety plans and programmes are implemented, revised and updated according to changes in regulations or process/policy/equipment • Maintain all occupational health surveillance requirements for all employees • Ensure that all new employees are properly trained working with management and ensure that all refresher training is conduced appropriately and effectively to the defined schedules. • Facilitate and ensure that all safety committee meetings are held monthly/quarterly at all facilities. Ensure compliance with all legally prescribed mandated safety committee meeting requirements • Alert management of any regulatory compliance observations. Notify the Head of H&S of all regulator inspections, follow up documentation and all notices of violation. Responding to the regulator as required. • Coordinate the processing of all employee liability, public liability and property insurance claims, legal issues and related matters • Ensure that accident investigations are conducted in accordance with company procedures and to standards required. To review accidents and ensure information is captured in SH&C Team compliance management system. Applications are invited from candidates with the following skills, qualifications and experience: • Education equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree in Safety Sciences, or other related field, or equivalent in related work experience demonstrating the ability to manage incident investigations, industrial hygiene monitoring, and transitional duty/occupational health surveillance programmes. • Demonstrates knowledge of relevant local, national and regional H&S legislation. • Must possess or be working towards a NEBOSH Diploma in Occupational Health & Safety or equivalent • Formal qualifications in safety auditing, risk assessment, manual handling, machinery safety, managing legionella, permit to work and equipment isolation, confined space working and/or dangerous substance and explosive atmospheres would be an advantage • Proficiency with Microsoft office products i.e. Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Access and familiarity with computer based compliance management and tracking systems • Able to modify behaviour, as needed, in order to maintain effectiveness in a changing situation; and with varying tasks, responsibilities or people. • Able to positively and confidently express one’s opinions and feelings in spite of disagreement. Accurately communicates with others regardless of their status or position. • Able to present ideas and information in a clear, concise, organised and diplomatic manner; ask appropriate questions in order to obtain information; listen to others to respond effectively to ideas and questions. Presents prepared information to individuals and groups in a manner that is clear and concise, holds their interest and addresses their needs and concerns • Able to deal openly and honestly with internal and external customers while building credibility and maintaining trust. Travel varies in frequency and duration and will require overnight stays.
