Environmental Monitoring Technician

Due to continued growth Mayer Environmental Ltd has a requirement for an additional consultant / technician to provide support with respect to environmental monitoring/waste consultancy.

For the right candidate this position could be seen as an excellent development opportunity or a role to suit a more experienced person.


  • Undertaking monitoring and sampling of environmental media (including ambient dust monitoring) on waste management sites, including setting up and collecting the equipment, and overseeing the interim downloading of data
  • Managing the calibration and servicing of the monitoring equipment
  • Commissioning and supervising sub-contractors
  • Writing reports and undertaking risk assessments of the monitoring data utilising the Environment Agency’s H1 risk assessment tool.
  • Providing waste, recycling and resource consultancy advice to clients
  • Assisting in the preparation of environmental permit applications and management systems
  • Helping expand the extent of environmental monitoring through business development, marketing and tender completion


  • A relevant, science-based degree , such as Geology, Environmental Science or Chemistry
  • Previous monitoring experience with either another consultancy or Regulator
  • Good understanding of the waste regulatory and compliance regime (an understanding of the IED regime would be an advantage)
  • Excellent report writing and good presentation/communication skills
  • Computer literate and familiar with MS Excel and Word
  • Full UK driving licence, the role will require travel to sites around the UK
