Internship - European Policy - Sustainability

Our European policy department mainly works with the European Institutions and bodies by providing consultancy in public policy and management. We provide policy research and analysis, evaluations and impact assessments, stakeholder engagement and process facilitation a wide range of policy areas. We support evidence-based policy making in environmental protection, climate action, energy and transport, regional development, internal market and industry. We are currently looking for interns passionate about working in these fields to join our office in Brussels.

Job description
You will be part of our European Policy team where we work on projects such as:

  • Evaluations of EU Commission programmes, projects and legislation
  • Studies on topical issues (in preparation for new European initiatives)
  • Impact Assessments of new Commission initiatives

You will work across a range of policy areas:

  • Environmental protection: sustainable agriculture and fisheries management, biodiversity, integrated maritime policy, chemicals, waste management.
  • Climate change mitigation and adaptation: monitoring and accelerating progress towards achieving climate objectives, supporting public action at city, regional and national level.
  • Energy and transport: renewable energy, energy efficiency, safe and sustainable transport, trans-European networks, infrastructure and innovation.
  • Business policy: internal market, industrial policy and entrepreneurship, digitalisation.

During your internship, you will be involved in different assignments, e.g. desk research, interviews, surveys, analyses, and data processing, as well as some administrative tasks. The working language is English.

Your profile
You have a Bachelor's degree and are studying for or have a Master's Degree where you are/were among the top students, preferably in European Studies, Policy, Law, Governance, Economics or Social Sciences, and with a focus on environmental and other related policy areas mentioned above. You have knowledge of and interest in the EU.

You are analytical, structured and good at handling many tasks at the same time, and have an excellent command of English, both written and oral. It is an advantage if you are fluent in a second European language, such as French, German, Dutch, Italian or Spanish. It is moreover an advantage if you have experience with qualitative and quantitative analysis and/or evaluation methodology, either from your studies or from a student job.

The internship is offered through the Belgian CIP (professional induction programme) and has a duration of 6 months. The internship period is from the 3rd of September 2018 to 1st of March 2019. It will be remunerated at 900 EUR net per month and will include normal social security contributions and holidays.
