Greening the Met

The Met’s role is to protect London – but we’re also committed to managing and enhancing our environmental performance. We therefore have an Environment and Sustainability Strategy in place that sets out our vision and objectives to demonstrate leadership in environmental management. As Recycling Officer, you’ll play a key part in putting our plans into action, acting as a subject matter expert and resident technical specialist. Join us, and play your part in creating a greener Met.

You’ll be part of our Environment & Sustainability team, which belongs to our Real Estate Management function within the Met’s Property Services Department. Here, you’ll help us deliver our priorities in the area of waste management as well as contribute to other aspects of our environmental management programme. Day to day, you’ll work with the waste supply chain and internal colleagues to make sure waste is disposed of as planned. That means checking compliance with legislation, advising the organisation on best practice and analysing waste data.

You’ll also develop targets for future plans, update environmental policies and monitor our progress against goals. If you can see opportunities to increase recycling levels and support the Circular Economy, you’ll flag them up and lead on relevant projects. There’ll also be the chance to share knowledge with the wider Greater London Authority (GLA). You’ll be our representative and a champion for recycling.

Experienced and motivated, you’ll bring good knowledge of your field. You know about statutory requirements, strategy and wider environmental issues. This expertise is based on a degree in an Environmental or Waste Management discipline. You should also be working towards membership of the Chartered Institute of Waste Management (or similar), if you don’t have this already.

In addition to technical knowledge, you’ll have the drive to improve our environmental performance. You’ll combine data management, communication and networking skills to write reports and spread your influence.

In return, we offer great opportunities to develop your skills and career.

To apply, please visit our website to download a role specific information pack and click on the link to complete and submit the online application form.  You will also be required to submit a detailed CV and a personal statement.

Completed applications must be submitted by 23.55pm on Monday 26th March

Failure to supply all the relevant documents will result in your application being terminated.

We view diversity as fundamental to our success. To tackle today’s complex policing challenges, we need a workforce made up from all of London’s communities. Applications from across the community are therefore essential.
