Who we are

Hitachi Nuclear Energy Europe Limited is a major UK company set-up to provide the management and delivery of a variety of UK and European nuclear projects. Its first major role is to lead Hitachi’s work in the Menter Newydd joint venture, delivering Early Contractor support to Horizon Nuclear Power, in preparation for construction of their nuclear new build project at Wylfa Newydd.

The role

We’re looking for a first-class administrator to support the Environment, Health & Safety department (EH&S), to ensure compliance with all UK legal requirements, as well as with HNE business case needs.

You’ll be expected to maintain EH&S policy and strategy and ensure that EH&S best practice is embedded into management delivery, integrating and co-ordinating the EH&S activities of all disciplines, departments and other suppliers of engineering design contributing to the project. As well as monitoring and reporting, you’ll ensure timely documentation for all necessary approvals (including any required from external authorities).

In addition to co-ordinating environmental input into the Pre-Construction and Construction phase management plans and procedures, you will also develop the Materials and Waste Management strategies for our Gloucester offices and other locations.

An important part of your role will be to maintain effective working relationships with the client and other organisations to ensure understanding and application of responsibilities with regard to the Company’s environment, health, safety, security and quality standards.

Your skills, qualifications and experience

To succeed it’s essential that you have a relevant certificate in an Environmental or Health & Safety Discipline such as a NEBOSH Certificate, or equivalent and ideally be working towards membership of an appropriate professional environmental institution, such as the IEMA or IOSH.

With experience gained In a Construction and/or Nuclear environment, you’ll have an understanding of the influences of design and operation on the installation, commissioning and maintenance requirements of a regulated site. You should also be able to demonstrate an understanding of Environmental, Waste Management and Health and Safety standards and regulatory requirements for construction appropriate to conventional and hazardous environments - in particular the UK Nuclear Industry.

Your knowledge and experience will be supported with formal training in UK Environmental or Health and Safety Compliance, with knowledge of CDM Regulations 2015, CL:AIRE and  ISO 14001  being highly advantageous.

Good time management, and the ability to prioritise are important, as is the ability to communicate effectively at all levels, both internally and externally, orally and in writing. You’ll also need good presentation skills and an aptitude for report, documentation and letter writing.

A good working knowledge of all major office software is necessary.

The nature of the role means that you may be required to hold UK Security Clearance.
