Job Description
We need a source of electrical expertise to join our newly formed team focused on building Shell’s new energies portfolio. It’s a role that could grow as this fast-moving field develops – ideal role if you’re looking to take your engineering career in an exciting new direction.

What’s the role?

You’ll be to a core team member of our new Wind team, with responsibility for providing technical input on the electrical aspects of wind farm power systems including generation, distribution and transmission, with an emphasis on providing solutions for new wind farms.

This is just the start. Over time you can shape and grow your role and develop your skills in Energy Transition technology. With passion to learn, you could develop into an electrical engineering professional with highly marketable specialist knowledge the integration of wind turbine generators, grid code compliance, power quality management, scale up and cost reduction challenges.

Ideally, you’ll be based in The Hague, but we work across Europe, so you could also join us in Hamburg or London.

About the team
Our New Energies/Wind team is a small team that looks to be competitive in a market very different to traditional oil and gas. You’ll join us at a time when the wind industry is maturing, governments are deciding policy and the competitive landscape is opening up. There’s huge scope for technical innovation at several levels, including turbine design, improvement of yield, and reduction of operating costs – together we’re on a journey of discovery.

What we need from you
We want to hear from men and women who are commercially inquisitive and, like us, happiest when they’re exploring new territory and developing their skills.
Alongside a qualification in electrical engineering – probably at degree level (or equivalent), and some experience in a wind environment, you’ll need in-depth knowledge of power systems and system integration modelling – this is an area we’re keen to develop in-house.

Your personal skills will help you to thrive. You’ll need a proven ability to build professional networks, both internally and externally, to make sure that our plans incorporate best practice when it comes to the electrical engineering aspects of power systems and renewable energy. You’re a positive team player and a confident communicator – someone who can translate technical information clearly for non-technical colleagues.

You also have knowledge or experience in as many of the following as possible:

  • Specialist knowledge in power system modelling tools e.g. Matlab, DIgSILENT, PSCAD
  • Determining electrical system design for wind farms.
  • Selection of equipment; input into project execution, and operations and maintenance strategies.
  • Selection and application of condition monitoring
  • Technology assessment of electrical components and new wind turbines.
  • Grid connection, transmission technologies and grid compliance.
  • Oil and Gas industry experience
