The Role

As part of REC's ongoing growth and development in the South, my client is expanding its Ecology team and looking for a commercially focused professional to join the business. The individual will be based at one of their southern offices in Croydon, Winchester or Huntingdon.

As a Senior Ecologist, you will be part of a busy multi-disciplinary consultancy team in the South, whilst also providing support to the wider Ecology team throughout the UK. Working within the established southern consultancy team, you will also work alongside corporate teams including Business development, Marketing and HSEQ.

Main Duties:
  • Manage and oversee ecology projects
  • Write reports and technical review work
  • Advise clients on ecological aspects relating to their schemes - including mixed use and residential developments, minerals/waste projects, infrastructure and energy projects
  • Seek opportunities through coordinated business development to expand REC's Ecology and other services and capabilities
  • Prepare fee proposals, liaising with clients, and converting into fee earning work
  • Supervise/mentor Ecology staff and team development, as part of the wider southern team

Qualifications/Role Requirements:
  • Considerable and demonstrable ecological expertise, preferably from within the consultancy sector, with experience of protected species survey and licencing
  • Experience in the preparation and delivery of mitigation strategies and licences, particularly with great crested newt and reptiles
  • Experience in managing ecological input to development projects of all scales across a range of sectors and working with other environmental disciplines
  • Demonstrable experience of project winning, delivery and client management
  • Qualified to degree level or higher in a relevant field of Ecology, Natural Sciences or a related subject
  • Full membership of CIEEM and hold or be eligible for Chartered status (CEcol or CEnv)
  • A well-regarded team player with experience of managing staff and subcontractors, and able to development a good rapport with clients and colleagues
  • Excellent communicator and experience of liaising with Local Planning Authorities, Natural England and presenting development plans and ideas
  • You will understand the business environment of consultancy, ecology and be commercially astute
  • Full driving license
  • Licences for protected species surveys, particularly great crested newt and bats
