EDF Energy’s Nuclear New Build (NNB) programme will change the face of energy in the UK. The construction of the four pressurised water reactors is one of Europe’s largest infrastructure projects in Europe. It’s also a once-in-a-career opportunity for a credible, driven Environmental professional.

About the role
Focusing on construction side of the nuclear programme, you’ll be central to the successful delivery of safe, sustainable projects. You’ll provide expert advice and on-site support on all aspects of environmental compliance. And, working at both office and site locations, you’ll need to be flexible and comfortable dealing with a range of people at all levels. To do it well, you’ll need to:

• understand where, when and how environmental commitments originate
• provide specialist advice and support to staff on and off the construction sites on UK legislation, compliance, best practice, regulatory expectations and operational experience
• work across NNB to support the development of strategies and management plans in areas like waste and surface water, taking into account every stage of the construction process
• support the practical implementation of plans, processes and procedures affecting environmental performance and compliance on NNB sites
• provide expert knowledge of self-assessment and internal audit of site activities to ensure compliance against legislation, NNB processes and environmental best practice
• provide expert resource for the delivery of all requirements of the Environmental Management System
• work closely with key internal stakeholders to ensure a consistent, integrated and fully compliant approach

About you
Creating and maintaining a strong environmental culture within a project of this scale is a significant challenge, requiring extensive technical knowledge. Which is why, we’re looking for a tried-and-tested individual who is:

• degree-educated or possessed of relevant environmental qualifications
• experienced in providing advice to key stakeholders within a large industrial organisation or significant UK construction project
• able to operate within a high quality Environmental Management System
• familiar with BS EN ISO14001:2004 and developing procedures to meet EMS requirements
• well-versed in UK environmental legislation with knowledge of the supporting guidance, reference notes and best practice procedures
• confident developing Site Waste Management Plans
• familiar with the CL:AIRE Code of Practice
• possessed of a good understanding of the client/contractor relationship as defined in the Construction (Design and Management Regulations) 2007
• able to build strong relationships with regulators

About EDF Energy
A wholly-owned subsidiary of the EDF Group, EDF Energy is one of the UK’s largest energy companies and its largest producer of low-carbon electricity. To put some numbers to those facts, we generate around one fifth of the nation’s electricity and employ some 15,000 people. What really sets us apart, however, is our fresh approach. Everything we do is underpinned by a clear customer focus and a drive towards sustainability. Because it’s these two factors, we believe, that will define the UK energy industry for generations to come.
