It is a distinct delivery organisation with operational autonomy to advise and support government, local authorities and the NHS in a professionally independent manner.

At Porton Down, we manufacture vaccines and therapeutics, carry out important research into human diseases and provide specialist testing and medical advice to health care services. Site Operations has responsibility for a broad range of services ensuring that these important public health activities are effectively supported and that the site is able to perform its Category 1 responder duties at all times.

The Environmental Manager will manage the site’s Environmental Management System (EMS), use established auditing tools to ensure continual improvement, and take a proactive approach in identifying the sites environmental management requirements and developing a suitable plan to meet those requirements.

The Environmental Manager will deliver site and corporate environmental targets and objectives by influencing members of staff and leveraging their change management skills. The Environmental Manager will keep members of staff aware of any environmental legislative and sustainable development issues that relate to the operations carried out on site.

The applicant will have significant knowledge of UK and EU environmental legislation and environmental management systems, such as ISO14001. They will also have good communication and computer skills to conduct training, complete audits, prepare documents, dashboards and management reports.
