Use your commercial acumen and experience developing contracts to become a global expert in an exciting new sector

At the Crown Estate, we’re leading the way in the development of the UK’s offshore wind programme. It’s a pioneering initiative. Those involved in driving it forward will come to be seen as global experts in this nascent industry. Whether your experience lies in the field of property, energy or complex project development in another sector, this is a rare opportunity to help shape a new industry – and your own career.

The Commercial Adviser role

The burgeoning offshore wind industry is set to become a major UK manufacturing activity, bringing significant new inward investment, businesses and jobs. You’ll oversee the commercial integrity of our entire offshore wind programme. In particular, you’ll take responsibility for the commercial aspects of our property and development agreements with third parties. Working closely with internal and external legal experts, you’ll develop rigorous individual contracts, as well as evolving commercial policies and processes that will guide the rest of your offshore team. Promoting a culture of commercial awareness throughout this team will also be an important part of your role.

The experience you’ll need

You could have developed the skills we’re looking for in a very wide range of backgrounds. Of course, you’ll have experience of managing relevant commercial and contractual processes. But this could have been achieved in the energy or property industry, or even in a more generalist project development environment. Your strengths will include contract negotiation, the ability to deal effectively with multiple stakeholders and excellent project management skills. Finally, an ability to learn and develop on the job, plus an interest in renewable energy are both important.
