Job title: Director, Green Port Growth R&D Support & Fund
Reporting to: Director of CASS, University of Hull
Duration: Full time, fixed term to 31st March 2018

Background and Context
This is an exciting opportunity for an exceptional offshore, or renewables, industry professional to help build a new economy focused on Renewable Energy. Private and public sector partners have secured a £25.7m from the Government's Regional Growth Fund (RGF) to help Hull and East Riding capitalise on the once-in-a-generation opportunity for substantial economic growth in the renewables sector - particularly in offshore wind.
The Green Port Growth RGF programme aims to create a globally competitive renewables industry in the region and establish Hull and the Humber as a world class centre for renewable energy. It will capitalise on announcements such as Siemens' choice of ABP's Green Port Hull facility as its preferred site for its showcase OSW assembly facility and the securing of the UK's largest Enterprise Zone status, exclusively for the renewables sector.
The Green Port Growth programme, comprising six strands (Business Investment Grants, Business Support, Inward Investment, R&D Support & Fund, Site Assembly, Skills and Training), will deliver a £350m programme of public and private investment and aims to create or safeguard 3500 jobs in the offshore wind and wider renewables industry - helping local businesses and people take advantage of the opportunities.
The successful candidate will personally provide expertise to companies (within the region of Hull and East Riding of Yorkshire) in the development, financing, implementation and exploitation of their R&D activities in the renewables (esp. offshore wind) sector.
With your strong private sector experience and contacts, you will work with businesses either in or looking to locate in the region to develop R&D activities leading to new or improved products and processes (conception-to-market); enabling them to be globally competitive in the renewables sector - with a particular focus on the offshore wind industry.
Based at the University of Hull and supported by the R&D Support & Fund team, your work will be undertaken in close cooperation with the other strands of the Green Port Growth programme, ensuring that the support that companies receive is delivered as part of a coherent and effective package- improving the likelihood of businesses growth and new jobs.
It is envisaged that the successful candidate will have a strong hands-on understanding of renewables' industry supply chains and be able to interact effectively nationally and internationally with key players.
