Senior Policy Officer – Radioactive Contaminated Land
Central Scotland although other locations may be considered
£31,389 to £36,188
Take this high profile role, and you will set out in detail all of SEPA’s legal and regulatory requirements for the process of identifying radioactively contaminated land. A key member of our Radioactive Substances Policy and Nuclear Regulation Unit, you will respond to enquiries from a wide range of internal and external stakeholders. Alongside compiling a database and GIS map of sites that may have been contaminated by radioactive materials, you will set out our strategy for how we will manage these sites. It’s your chance to make Scotland a greener place to live as you develop our policies, procedures, and practical guidance.
To succeed, you will need a sound understanding of our legal and regulatory responsibilities under Part IIA of EPA 90 together with familiarity with both the contaminated land and radioactive contaminated land regimes. It’s likely you’ve gained this knowledge in a similar role, ideally involving radioactive substances. Educated to degree level in a science or environmental discipline, you will have the credibility, confidence, and communication skills to act as our ambassador with a diverse mix of companies and organisations. Above all, you’ll have the ability to stay up to speed with changes in European and UK legislation.

The salary band for this post is Band D, £31,389 to £36,188, starting salary will be on the base of the salary scale, £31,389
