Environment Officer (Air Quality)

Tunbridge Wells

£30,639 per annum pro rata

Fixed term: 10 months

Tunbridge Wells Borough Council is a high performing innovative local authority with a long term vision to retain and develop as a prosperous and economically vibrant area.  An opportunity has arisen to appoint a highly-motivated team member into the Sustainability Team for a fixed term period of 10 months.

The team is responsible for directing the authority’s approach to sustainability and embedding sustainability across the organisation, both in terms of its own operations and externally, and is responsible for progressing local air quality management, improving local air quality, climate change, carbon reduction, energy conservation and resilience.

The primary function of this role will be to manage and implement the Council’s local air quality management duties, developing air quality action plans further and implementing air quality projects.  The role also involves liaising with key services and groups to ensure air quality has been adequately taken into account in the development control and transport planning process, as well as managing all air quality data.  Other functions of the role include critically appraising data, monitoring fortnightly calibration of the real time air quality monitoring station and monthly diffusion tube sampling.

Currently Tunbridge Wells Borough Council is reviewing environmental health service delivery with 2 other local authorities.  An opportunity therefore exists to re-evaluate the delivery of local air quality management and monitoring with a view to implementing best practice.

The successful candidate will need to have a relevant environmental science/health degree or equivalent, an excellent understanding of air quality issues, knowledge of climate change and have experience in a similar role in the public or private sector.
