Water Framework Directive Advisor
Penrith, Preston or Warrington
£24,280 - £27,090 per annum
The Environment Agency operates at the place where environmental change has its greatest impact on people’s lives. We work closely with a wide range of partners to make sure there is enough water for people and wildlife; reduce the risk of flooding; protect and improve air, land and water quality and apply the environmental standards within which industry can operate. Join us as a Water Framework Directive Advisor and you’ll play an important role in ensuring that future generations inherit a cleaner, healthier world.
Under the Water Framework Directive, we’re developing river basin management plans to protect and improve the water environment. Joining our North West Environment and Business team, you’ll provide strategic coordination and technical leadership to make sure that we’re delivering environmental outcomes for the North West River Basins District. From river basin and catchment planning, to water resources, fisheries and pollution prevention, you’ll advise and guide internal teams and colleagues. Understandably, you’ll also have regular contact with key partners and stakeholders, including the Rivers Trust, National Farmers Union, Natural England, water companies and many more.
While we’re flexible about your work location, which could be Penrith, Preston or Warrington, you’ll need to travel to meetings across the North West as and when necessary.
A degree (or equivalent qualification) in a relevant subject will be an advantage, as will some relevant work experience. We’d like you to have a basic understanding of river basin planning and aquatic ecosystems – and how they affect water quality and the way we manage the land. You should be confident handling and managing data too. Proactive, organised and methodical, with an eye for detail and head for figures, you’re more than capable of managing a number of projects at the one time – and doing all of them brilliantly well. Clear, concise communication skills mean you’re able to get across complex messages and information in a way we can all understand.
In return, we offer a competitive package with a range of benefits and the opportunity to make a real difference to the environment. We’re committed to your continued professional development and you will have the opportunity to further develop your skills, expertise and career in the fast-paced, ever-evolving environment. We’re open to flexible working patterns too, including jobshare.
Closing date: 22 October 2012.
We are committed to having an inclusive workforce to reflect the communities we serve. We welcome applications from candidates seeking flexible working patterns, including job share. Please highlight any information regarding preferred flexible working arrangements on your application.
