About us

The Environment Agency operates at the place where environmental change has its greatest impact on people’s lives. We work closely with a wide range of partners to make sure there is enough water for people and wildlife; reduce the risk of flooding; protect and improve air, land and water quality and apply the environmental standards within which industry can operate.

The role

We’re looking for a proactive and forward thinking senior environmental assessment practitioner to manage a wide range of environmental and social risks on our flood and coastal defence schemes. The National Environmental Assessment Service is a dedicated team of environmental project managers and environmental assessment practitioners who manage the environmental impact of our multi-million pound capital and revenue programmes. As part of the team, you’ll be exposed to a wide range of experiences, from environmental risk management, stakeholder engagement, and leading our environmental framework suppliers to driving environmental outcomes. Working closely with specialists from across the Environment Agency, statutory bodies, consultants and contractors, you’ll ensure that our projects have minimal environmental impact, uphold high standards in environmental design and contribute to national and regional environmental targets.

About you

As a senior environmental project manager, you’ll have extensive experience within the field of EIA or SEA. You should be able to demonstrate your ability to effectively communicate at all levels both within the Environment Agency and with our external partners. Your influencing and negotiating skills will be key in addressing environmental issues and delivering outcomes. You’ll also need to be a champion of environmental risk management.

You’re likely to have some project management skills (ideally you’ll have PRINCE 2 Foundation status or be willing to work towards it) and sound experience of either managing or writing environmental assessments. You’ll be qualified in an environmental discipline, or have equivalent qualifications, and have professional membership of IEMA, IEEM or CIWEM.

In return, we offer a competitive package with a range of benefits and the opportunity to make a real difference to people and wildlife. This is an excellent career development opportunity. The role will initially be based at our Midlands office in Olton but will move to our Solihull office in early 2013 and will include travel across the region and further afield and some overnight stays. The post requires a full UK driving license.
