My client is a large UK based environmental consultancy servicing their clients across a wide number of disciplines including EIA, ecology and air quality. Due to continued expansion and winning a number of exciting projects they require the services of an experienced ecologist.
The successful candidate will deliver ecological consultancy and mitigation works in a fast moving, client focused commercial environment.
Key responsibilities:
*Plan and undertake a wide range of ecological surveys including extended Phase 1 and Ecocheck surveys to more specialist work, for example protected species surveys and mitigation. It will be necessary to work flexibly with regard to type of work, timing and location.
*Carry out desk studies, consultations, research, data management and analysis and report writing.
*Liaison and attending meetings with clients and statutory bodies
*Write ecological sections of Environmental Impact Assessments
*Deliver work as efficiently as possible, meet agreed timescales/quality standards and deliver reports on time.
*Develop understanding about the principles and procedures for project management.
*Work as part of a team and build professional relationships with colleagues to ensure best use of skills and knowledge.
*Role will require flexible working with regard to time and location, potentially including weekend working
*Support business development activities, from drafting quotes to assistance with tenders or working on sales initiatives as agreed with line manager.
*Identify target clients and client groups and approach for business development meetings. Undertake client meetings with colleagues and on own.
*Build and maintain productive working relationships across the team, business unit and the wider Group and carry out other work as agreed with the team manager.
Education/qualifications/experience/skills
Essential
*Sound knowledge of ecological principles, wildlife conservation and practical habitat management
*Good understanding of key ecological survey methodologies for a wide range of fauna and flora with emphasis on protected species and habitats
*An understanding of ecological legislation and policy relating to UK fauna and flora
*Experience of working as a practising field ecologist, preferably in a commercial environment
*Good organisational and team working skills, including the ability to prioritise and complete tasks in a timely manner
*Numerate with good attention to detail
*Excellent verbal and written communication and IT skills and IT skills
*Willingness to work flexibly and on occasions alone and on challenging sites e.g. railways and wayleaves
*A full driving licence
Desirable
*Full membership of IEEM or close to achieving this
*Experience of writing and submitting EPS licence applications and implementation of mitigation works
*Understanding of Ecological Impact Assessments/EIA
*Possession of protected species licences for at least one relevant EPS or close to achieving this
*A degree or equivalent in ecology or related discipline
*Experience of mentoring junior staff
*Experience of working on railway and utilities projects with relevant certification e.g. PTS, IWA.
