The British Geological Survey (BGS), founded in 1835, is part of the Natural Environment Research Council (NERC). It is the world's longest-established national geological survey and the UK’s premier centre for earth science information and expertise. A vacancy has arisen for a Hydrogeologist on a three year fixed term appointment based at our office in Cardiff.
You will provide a focus for, and develop, groundwater science research to underpin environmental planning and sustainable catchment and resource management research in Wales. In addition you will identify and pursue research opportunities (grants, research programmes and commissioned work) to enhance the reputation and impact of the BGS groundwater science programme. You will develop collaborations across BGS and with public sector stakeholders in Wales to deliver integrated multi-disciplinary projects within which groundwater is a critical component; you will also contribute to the broader range of geoscience programs at BGS Cardiff.
You must be educated to degree level (2:1 or above) in geology or a closely related geoscience subject and hold an Msc or PhD in an hydrogeological or directly related discipline; you should have demonstrable knowledge of hydrogeology and its application to catchment science and management. You will have excellent oral and written communication skills. As the post involves team working, you will be able to work effectively with others, and have good time management skills.
Starting salary will be between £26,180 per annum and £29,410 per annum depending on qualifications and experience. Working hours will be 37 per week excluding lunch breaks.
