The role will involve supporting the Scotland Environment team through the assessment of risks to the water environment from potential contamination using quantitative means. A wider understanding of contaminated land issues will also be required in order to undertake contamination assessments at a senior level.
You should have:
- Advanced specialist knowledge in the evaluation and mitigation of risks from at least one industry sector relevant to Scotland’s groundwater resources (current examples include coal bed methane, open cast coal, agricultural nitrates, landfill, contaminated land or radioactive substances).
- An understanding of how to balance knowledge with monitoring and modelling data to deliver practical and proportionate advice on the evaluation and mitigation of risks.
- The development of quality systems. Ability to take the lead role in the development of new techniques, evaluating the benefits and risks to the service.
- Communication of complex concepts to train or influence colleagues and stakeholders. Ability to select the most appropriate way of presenting complex information to suit the particular audience.
The post requires frequent travel within Scotland and occasionally within the UK.
