Arcus is a dynamic, independent consultancy providing planning and environmental services to the renewable energy industry. Arcus currently works throughout the UK and Ireland from our offices in Glasgow, York and Swindon. An opportunity has arisen for a talented consultant or senior consultant to join our team in Glasgow. 

The role will focus on the project management of Environmental Impact Assessment for a range of developments with a focus on offshore wind energy and to prepare additional consenting documents including Marine Licence applications alongside other environmental consultancy tasks such as feasibility and due diligence.

Key roles and responsibilities will include:

·         Lead role in client liaison, budgeting and reporting on projects;

·         Provision of high quality client advice on strategy, statutory requirements and defining assessment parameters for the Environmental Impact Assessment;

·         Co-ordination of project team including subconsultants;

·         Regular reporting to Project Director;

·         Liaison with statutory and non-statutory consultees and third parties;

·         Management of Screening, Scoping and Environmental Statement preparation;

·         Drafting of non-technical Environmental Statement chapters;

·         Critical review of technical assessments including review of methodologies including survey methodologies, approach to assessment and proposed mitigation and enhancement;

·         Management of public exhibition process including materials and advertising;

·         Lead post submission negotiations with determining authorities and statutory consultees;

·         Co-ordinate discharge of post consent conditions and pre construction surveys and reports;

·         Compliance with quality management systems; and

·         Management of and input to feasibility and due diligence work.

 

The successful candidate will be a member of IEEM with a proven track record of project management of large scale Environmental Impact Assessment (i.e. in excess of £100K).  Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are essential alongside self-motivation and the ability to lead multidisciplinary teams. The successful candidate will also require the ability to manage a variable workload and conflicting deadlines. The ability to critically review and provide constructive comment on technical subject matter in the context of Environmental Impact Assessment is essential as is a detailed understanding of Environmental Impact Assessment and its role in the UK Planning System and Offshore Consenting regime.

A detailed working knowledge of the role of renewable energy in UK energy supplies and existing Government drivers alongside a demonstrable understanding of the approach the UK Government has taken to identifying offshore wind sites.

A degree (2:1 or higher) in an environmental science or environmental management and environmental consultancy and commercial experience are essential.

A post graduate qualification in EIA and demonstrable understanding of offshore project challenges and previous experience of offshore EIA are highly desirable.
