You will lead the strategic assessment and environmental policy capacity for the County Council, in relation to planning, minerals and waste, sustainable development and climate change amongst others. Most importantly you will deliver the County Council's statutory responsibilities in relation to the preparation of Sustainability Assessments, Strategic Environmental Assessments, Strategic Flood Risk Assessments and Habitats Regulations Assessments. This includes the preparation of the statutory Sustainability Appraisals for the North Yorkshire Minerals and Waste Development Framework essential to the delivery of this critical document.
Reporting to the Natural Environment Team Leader, you will work with an Environmental Policy Officer and natural environment specialists, alongside other staff within the Waste and Countryside Service.
You will need a degree or equivalent, which is related to environmental science and have relevant post-qualification experience leading on environmental issues, including Sustainability Assessments, Strategic Environmental Assessments, Habitat Regulations and Strategic Flood Risk Assessments. You will be expected to have a sound knowledge of environmental legislation, policy and current sustainable development issues in England and to have worked closely with statutory and other partners. You will have experience in making, disseminating and providing advice in relation to environmental policy matters and be able to critically analyse diverse information presented in a variety of formats and from a variety of sources, probing for greater understanding where necessary.
