Project Manager: £26,000 - £36,000 + benefit package
Principal Ecologist: £35,000 - £55,000 + benefit package

APEM Limited is Europe’s largest specialist aquatic science and remote sensing consultancy, offering our clients an integrated approach to every aspect of the scientific study and management of freshwater and marine habitats. APEM’s Remote Sensing Division is a rapidly expanding part of the business and is responsible for all aspects of the company’s aerial survey programme, including offshore bird surveys. One of the main roles of the team is to organize, undertake and analyze aerial surveys of birds – particularly offshore. Coupled with this is the need for expert advice and interpretation, including EIA and HRA.
As APEM’s Remote Sensing Division continues to expand, we are seeking an established specialist to join our multidisciplinary teams of aquatic specialists based at our office in central Cambridge. Reporting to the Head of Ornithology, and working closely with him, your work will involve a variety of tasks including project and people management, but will be primarily focused on providing advice about, and delivering Environmental Impact Assessments.
The ideal candidate will either have a PhD or MSc with relevant consultancy experience. The candidate will have a very sound knowledge of some, or all of avian, marine mammal ecology and behavior or terrestrial ecology, and will be comfortable with advising clients and stakeholders on ornithology or marine mammal issues. Recent experience in Environmental Impact Assessment, Strategic Environmental Assessment, and / or Habitats Regulations Assessment is essential. Skills in data handling, statistical analysis and GIS skills would also be advantageous. Excellent report writing and communication skills are essential and therefore a proven record in reviewing and delivering reports to deadlines and/or publishing in scientific literature is required.
As a Principal Ecologist, as well as the above skills, you would need to be recognized by key individuals in your field and to have a track record of dealing with corporate sector clients at the highest level, including the provision of expert biological advice.
You will be required to work both independently and as a leader of project teams drawn from our national office locations. A proven ability to organize efficient work schedules, to meet tight deadlines and to deliver projects within budget will be essential for achieving success in this role. Business development experience would be advantageous.
The role will be office-based although client meetings will be required and therefore flexibility and a full driving license is therefore essential.
