This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced marine scientist to join the Evidence, Data and Knowledge Management team and play a leading role in supporting the development of our Research & Development Programme.

The Marine Management Organisation (MMO) is responsible for the majority of activities in English waters. We oversee marine planning to ensure the sustainable development of our coastal and offshore waters, monitor and control sea fishing activity, enforce marine legislation and licensing, and carry out projects that help to protect water environments.

The MMO requires a marine specialist to help develop its evidence base to inform its decision-making regarding management of the marine environment. A specialist is required to join our intelligent customer function to plan, commission and manage evidence projects, as well as provide specialist technical advice to MMO teams.

If you are a marine scientist with experience in ecology, social science (applied to coastal or marine environments), geomorphology, environmental pollution or fisheries science you could be the right candidate.

You will be a good multi-tasker, capable of analysing MMO evidence needs, integrating requirements with other policy implementers, providing expert advice in quick timeframes relating to large developments, project managing evidence commissions on a variety of topics such as cumulative effects, co-location, socio-economics, marine protected area management, ecosystem services approach to management, fisheries and other exciting topics.
