Technical Director, Waste to Energy
Our client is a major international engineering, design and consultancy company.It has a significant presence in Northern Europe, India, Russia and the Middle East. In the UK it operates from a number of offices with activities ranging from sustainable energy to structural, civil engineering.
Its UK Waste to Energy team is growing in response to winning more work and the demand for specialist technical support for infrastructure projects of this nature and complexity. It presently provides consultancy services to a range of local authorities and private sector waste management / construction contractors who require help with project concepts, planning, implementation for the construction and operation of waste treatment and processing facilities, throughout the UK.
The main focus of this role is to drive the company's efforts to grow, acquire and deliver engineering and technical projects for clients. Manage the delivery of evaluation and technical reports to clients i.e. local authorities, waste management organisations, banks, lenders, owners, developers and operators. To do this it is expected that you will spend roughly 50% of time devoted to business development activities and the remaining 50% on delivering billable project work.
Experience:Several different backgrounds would equip candidates with the required experience:
-Technical and engineering consultancy - principal or associate director level with energy from waste / biomass expertise (thermal treatment).
-Equipment suppliers / package solution providers / energy management services - technical director/manager or senior project director/manager in energy from waste / biomass teams.
-Utilities - possible, but unlikely if experience is limited purely to project delivery or O&M management.
Proven ability to deliver projects, meeting timescales, quality and financial targets.
Track record of technical/project management which has encompassed the construction and build phases of energy from waste / biomass or, other power plants.
Well-developed skills in managing staff and financial resources.
Successful track record of winning business (if from a consultancy) or the aptitude and credibility to develop business (if from the utilities/ developer or supplier / solutions provider).
Personal qualities:Professionally credible and authoritative as a technical expert.
Well-rounded people skills: able to lead, motivate and control teams of people (both directly reporting and assigned to specific projects) to achieve results.
Collaborative approach to delivering solutions to clients' requirements. Confident working in project teams, sometimes as leader, other times as supporting member.
Well-honed relationship building abilities, both within own organisation and externally.
First-class communicator orally and in writing. Able to produce written reports of high quality. Comfortable presenting the findings to clients' executives.
Confident user of office automation and project management IT systems.
It is expected that candidates will be a graduate in an engineering or technical discipline such as Mechanical or Chemical/Process Engineering.
