Pollution Prevention and Control (PPC) Officers (x7 posts)

Join our Pollution Prevention and Control (PPC) teams in the Midlands, and you can play an important role in ensuring that future generations inherit a cleaner, healthier world.

This is your chance to regulate some of the most significant industrial sites in England. You will work at the forefront of the Future Approach to Regulation which is changing the way the Environment Agency delivers regulation and compliance. You will be working to ensure compliance with a wide range of legislation, particularly the Environmental Permitting Regulations 2010.

We’ll look to you to audit industrial sites to ensure they comply with permitted arrangements. You will make complex assessments of their ability to protect the environment, prevent pollution, and optimise the use of resources. You will promote best practice to senior managers within industry, local communities, and other interested groups. At the same time, you will work to enforce the law and investigate accidents where required.

• you’ll come to us with a degree in science, environmental studies, or engineering or equivalent together with relevant operational experience;
• an excellent communicator with a pragmatic, solution-focused approach, you will ideally have experience in industry in a regulated sector;
• Familiarity with Environmental legislation and regulations would be highly desirable; perhaps you have worked as a regulator;
• for one of the roles we need someone with experience of industrial emissions monitoring who is familiar with monitoring standards and the MCerts certification scheme.
