The successful candidate will be an experienced, practical Geotechnical Engineer with project management, team management and business development skills. The candidate will manage their own projects and be expected to have a proactive role in the development of new business opportunities. 

Must be familiar with the application of geotechnical engineering to the assessment and development of landfills, mineral extractions sites and contaminated land.

The position of Senior Consultant is a recognition of the experience and technical expertise of the consultant and will generally manage projects of a more complex nature and multidisciplinary projects

You will be expected to undertake responsibility for specific project performance and control, including research and development work where appropriate, project procurement and business development. Liaise with regulatory authorities during projects and to liaise with clients in order to convey information regarding relevant projects or investigations. Undertake work as necessary as part of project teams. To prepare letters, reports or other written work as required by the Company and manage and supervise landfill engineering works and site investigations.

You will also undertake the technical aspect of landfill engineering works including preparation of landfill designs, specification and contract documents and administration of civil engineering form of contracts such as ICE and EEC.

Assess the risks and liabilities associated with projects for a variety of purposes including pre-acquisition due diligence and insurance. Timely preparation of invoices to clients and chasing settlement when appropriate.Proofing responsibilities in compliance with the QA system as appropriate.


Carry out quality procedures in accordance with the quality system, control the quality, progress and costs of projects including the overseeing the management of projects in line with budgets. Prepare contract documentation, budgets and programmes of work and represent the company at business and social events and promote the company’s services and interests at all opportunities.

Undertake a range of duties arising out of the overall workload of the Company, including Health and safety responsibilities. Senior Consultants are responsible for the staff they supervise and in particular their health and safety. They will ensure that they comply fully with the Company H&S management system. This includes ensuring that:
all site activities are subject to some form of risk assessment prior to work commencing; Systems of working or other safety procedures are documented and also briefed to fellow employees, that all staff are provided with adequate personal protective equipment and all accidents and incidents are recorded in the relevant accident book.

All new employees are provided with the relevant induction training for the area of work that they are engaged in; All plant and equipment is subject to routine inspection to ensure that it is maintained in safe condition and all chemicals and other proprietary materials are subject to risk assessment and that full safety data sheets are available for use.

Previous experience within a similar role
MSc or MEng in Civil Engineering or equivalent (incorporating geotechnical engineering or soil mechanics)
Member of ICE would be an advantage.


Experience of landfill design and preparation of specifications, CQA plans and contract documents
Working knowledge of slope stability assessment
Working knowledge of civil engineering form of contract e.g. ICE, ECC.

In depth knowledge of landfill engineering supervision and construction quality assurance. Knowledge of Quality Management Systems would be an advantage
Computer skills in Microsoft Word and Excel
Good organisational skills and the ability to prioritise workloads

Good administrative and organisational skills with the ability to prioritise workloads.  Experience in project management, budgeting & financial control together with high standards of written work.
