JIG is a small environmental consultancy operating across the whole of Scotland and the north of England. We specialise in matters concerning waste-water and surface water treatment and dispersal from both housing and commercial developments, waste management matters, and sustainability issues in general. Much of our work requires liaison and indeed “negotiation” with regulatory bodies such as SEPA, the EA, the planning and building control functions of local authorities, and also with Scottish Water.

Owing to an increasing stream of projects, we seek an:

ENVIRONMENT PROTECTION CONSULTANT

Applications are invited from those with at least one to two years regulatory experience in an environmental or engineering sector who have the ability to work within a close, dynamic team.

Considerable knowledge of the Water Framework Directive, and more specifically, the Water Environment (Controlled Activities) (Scotland) Regulations 2005 is essential and the applicant should be familiar with the waste management licensing regimes, the Building (Scotland) Regulations and other legislation and guidance concerning matters such as flood risk, SUDS, and our natural heritage. A good knowledge of geology and the ability to log trial pits in accordance with BS5930 would be advantageous.

Due to the nature of the role and the potential for frequent travel to project sites a full driving licence is essential. The applicant should be comfortable using MS Excel and MS Word and be able to demonstrate skill in writing their own letters and reports.

The salary for this post is £23,893 - £28,208 per annum with the starting salary being dependent on experience and the ability to contribute to JIG’s continued success.
