SENIOR RESEARCH POSITION IN ECOLOGICAL ASSESSMENT AND EARTH OBSERVATIONLANCASTER
The Centre for Ecology and Hydrology (CEH), part of the Natural Environment Research Council (NERC), is the UK’s Centre of Excellence for research in the terrestrial and freshwater environmental sciences.
CEH is looking for an experienced ecologist or remote-sensing ecologist to lead the development of a major part of its land use research programme. The successful applicant will develop and lead projects on ecosystem assessment and forecasting to predict the consequences of future environmental change scenarios on UK ecosystems and landscapes and the services they support, particularly those related to biodiversity. The role will include work on the development and application of the UK Countryside Survey (www.countrysidesurvey.org.uk) and its integration with other data sources including remotely sensed data sources (e.g. the remotely sensed national Land Cover Maps).
The successful candidate must have excellent written and oral communication skills to communicate with stakeholders and across disciplinary boundaries. In addition they must be able to build and work with inter-disciplinary teams within CEH and with outside organisations and be a prime-mover in a field relevant to Land Use Change and Integrated Assessment. Experience in relation to biodiversity issues, European projects and an ability to develop EC Framework Programme projects would be a big advantage. You will have a strong publication record in a relevant field, a proven ability to develop successful grant or commissioned research proposals and a track record of leading teams. Experience of working successfully on inter-disciplinary projects would be an advantage.
The salary for this post is £35,170.00 progressing to £46,350.00 per annum. In addition we’ll support your career development and you’ll enjoy a rewards package that includes NERC’s public sector pension scheme, 30 days’ annual leave and 10½ days’ public and privilege holiday per annum.
