Enviros is one of the largest multidisciplinary environmental consultancies in the UK and part of the Carillion group. PURPOSE & SCOPE OF THE ROLE: Reporting into the Consulting Group Manager, the Senior Consultant will be responsible for the day-to-day management of single or multi-disciplinary environmental projects. This will include mentoring other members of the team and the technical management of projects. The Senior Consultant will ensure that the deliverance of project outputs are within agreed brief, timescale, budget and terms and in accordance with the organisation’s certified quality and environmental management systems.
KEY PROJECTS/CLIENTS: The team are currently working on various Planning and EIA projects for the Waste, Renewables and Minerals sector.
RESPONSIBILITIES: • TECHNICAL: Will have a particular area /or areas of specialism and may be involved in developing the technical capability of the group. Will continue to offer and deliver technical solutions to meet business and client expectations. Maintain and develop core technical expertise and continue to increase technical breadth. Will act as a technical lead on a range of projects and proposals and communicate complex issues to colleagues and clients. Responsible for the technical work of less experienced consultants.
• PROJECT MANAGEMENT: Will act as a Project Manager and deliver high standard of work for single and multi -disciplinary environmental projects. Manages projects including costs, performance and spend against budget, quality, deadlines, delivery of reports, presentations and other deliverables. Reviewing the progress of the project on a regular basis. Takes responsibility for delivery to client needs. Resolves technical and financial queries through consultation with project managers and technical managers where appropriate. Investigates causes of overruns or lost margin on projects and instigates corrective action as necessary. Devises or selects most appropriate method of project delivery by considering implications. Defines recommendations and chooses appropriate solutions ensuring that proposals take into account the aspirations and constraints of the region and the wider company as well as the requirements of the client. Prioritises work, defines and allocates tasks, regularly communicates and provides updates and direction by regularly meeting with the project team. Identifies shortfalls and allocates employees to available work ensuring the task met employee development needs.
• CLIENT CARE: Responsible for client care as required on projects (under instruction from the project director and manager). Client care to include communication of progress, complex issues and any financial arrangements. Ensure projects delivered are meeting the client’s needs.
• COMMERCIAL: Will proactively take on business development activities. Focuses on achieving utilisation fee income and fee rate targets. Manage utilisation to optimise employee development, client satisfaction and overall profitability of a project. Maintains senior level client contacts and negotiates and agrees commercial terms where appropriate, consulting with Project Managers on large scale projects. Supports the Consulting Group Manager in the annual budgeting and planning process. Develops an awareness of customer business issues and identifies lead generation. Proactively seeks business development opportunities and develops these under guidance from Commercial Managers and Directors where appropriate. Involves less experienced employees in the process where relevant. Maintains a detailed awareness of Enviros capability, expertise and range of services and promotes Enviros capability including cross selling to the target market. Develops new market areas or new services where appropriate. Also reviews market intelligence to provide knowledge to others. Identifies and assesses risks to Enviros and agrees with manager/director responsible how these will be mitigated during delivery. Proposes solutions which aim to reduce the risk. Highlights areas where actions/practices are not delivering value and seeks to improve upon them. Takes accountability for own performance and achieves contribution target when set.
• TEAM WORKING: Will having a clear understanding of the company management procedures and project tools and an ability to help more junior members of staff use these in the correct manner. Encourages and motivates the team by supporting the Consulting Group Manager at team meetings. Supports the Consulting Group Manager by clearly communicating progress, employee performance targets and the necessary actions required. Demonstrates commitment to the team by displaying a personal commitment and positive attitude at all times and acts as an ambassador for teamwork. Supports the Consulting Group Manager in developing and facilitating development/career plans for team members. May support the Consulting Group Manager in carrying out performance reviews in line with company policy. Provides feedback to colleagues in a constructive manner. Supports the Consulting Group Manager in identifying resource requirements and shortfalls. Supports recruitment activities to meet resourcing plans.
EDUCATION & QUALIFICATIONS: • Educated to degree level (or equivalent or be able to demonstrate equivalent level of understanding). • Chartered Member RTPI (or working towards). • Hold a full driving licence. • Ideally hold a degree in a relevant science, planning or engineering field.
EXPERIENCE & SKILLS: • Relevant experience of managing single and multi-disciplinary projects. • Specialist planning and EIA knowledge. • A track record in business development activities is desirable. • Highly developed written and verbal communication skills. • Technical expertise in a main consultancy field. • Project management skills. • An ability to develop business including client care.
