Owing to an increasing demand for ecological services and as a profession, our Client has formed a dedicated Ecological Service Line. Growing demand for ecological work amongst their existing client base together with the opportunity of working closely with the various internal teams within the organisation has put them in a clear position to considerably expand this service line over the next 2 years.

They provide clients with a comprehensive range of engineering and environmental services, along with strategic consulting advice for new projects.

Due to its recent expansion of the ecology group there now exists an exciting opportunity within its Derby Office.

Key Responsibilities

Core responsibilities include:  Assisting senior staff in the delivery and management of projects.  Organising and carrying out desk and field based ecological habitat and species surveys.  Maintaining project data and records, and quality management systems.  Providing concise and accurate ecological reports to internal teams and external clients.  Managing in-house and sub-contractor field survey teams. Requirements

 A good relevant degree in biological sciences.  Full member of IEEM or similar relevant professional body.  Significant experience within a consultancy organisation and/or professional ecological organisation.  Good organisation skills and experience of project management.  Good presentation and communication skills.  Excellent data analysis and technical writing skills.  Numerate and IT literate in use of software and use and maintenance of digital recording equipment.  Wide practical experience of survey and recording techniques, and mitigation design.  Specialism in either vegetation, plants (higher and lower) & habitats and/or protected species (e.g. mammal ecology and licence holder for bats and/or badgers) and knowledge of invertebrates would be an advantage.

Additional requirements for the principal ecologist are:

 Thorough working knowledge and experience in the application of key EU & UK wildlife legislation and policy.  Experience in Ecological Impact Assessment (EcIA) using IEEM methodology (e.g. writing Environmental Statement chapters for Ecology and Nature Conservation) and working as part of multidisciplinary teams.  Experience and competence in ecological mitigation design and specifications for habitats and/or species.  Experience in supervising site works & contractors.  Experience in successfully tendering for ecological projects.  Experience in client management and business development is essential.  Experience in negotiation with statutory and non-statutory bodies. .

Remuneration offered by the company

 Basic salaries: SENIOR c..£25,000 - £35,000; PRINCIPAL s. £35,000 - £45,000 (depending on experience )  Company Contributory Pension Scheme – 5% to 8% (depending on grade)  Initial 22 –25 days annual leave (depending on grade) which rises with years of service  Private Healthcare with BUPA (inc. subsidised rate for family);  Subsidised company share purchase scheme;  Sick Leave provision substantially in excess of statutory requirements;  Four times salary death in service cover.  Permanent Health Insurance
