This post forms part of the overall business strategy for the environment team in Newcastle to increase business and deliver to the local market in the North of England. It will cover all aspects of Hydrogeology linked to contaminated land via land or water resources as well as pathway analysis and hydrogeological process assessments. Work is likely to include contribution to permits & licensing consents for clients, regulatory activities, and land contamination as well as environmental assessment work. The business sector will include external clients, notably EA, local authorities and business at regionally and also servicing internal business within ENV across the UK, coastal & rivers advice and maritime advise groups in Newcastle.
To fulfil this role, the candidate will need to have a demonstrable capability in environmental science at a level to be able to deliver technical contribution within the regulatory framework and provide solutions to impact issues for clients. Good knowledge and understanding of environmental policy and planning with good links into the market in the North of England including EA, local authorities, developers and mining. A good understanding of developments within the field of expertise is required and generation of new work will be pursued through prior agreement with the regional director.
The role will require a focused approach to the area of expertise and will involve management of projects or parts of projects of varying size, with potentially several projects being managed and/or supported simultaneously. A high level of awareness of the financial and time constraints on projects is necessary and the ability to work effectively within these constraints is crucial. The role requires the ability to quickly identify the key issues within a problem and to prioritise such issues from less important issues, drawing on experience and knowledge of similar situations and applying this as appropriate. Good and continuous communication is required. A high standard of professionalism is required with relation to both business development and project management. This will primarily involve recognising the needs and pressures of clients, maintaining the appropriate balance between client pressures and technical integrity of work, recognising the high importance of client confidentiality and managing the expectations of clients by clearly communicating the important issues within a project and informing clients of potential constraints in a timely manner.
Other aspects of this role are: To carry out duties which your line manager will reasonably request within the broad parameters of your role. Contribute to the development of services provided within the advice group and help promote it within the profession and the market. Capability to work outside of existing knowledge areas and apply skills to problems not necessarily within the particular field, where necessary. Focus towards continuous personal development through learning and obtaining feedback both internally & externally, where appropriate.
