KEY PROJECTS/CLIENTS:

The project portfolio will consist of various sustainable construction projects covering clients in both the public and private sectors.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• TECHNICAL: Offer and deliver technical solutions to meet the business and client expectations. Maintain and develop technical expertise and continue to increase technical breadth. Will act as a technical lead on a range of projects and proposals and communicate complex issues to colleagues and clients. Responsible for the technical work of less experienced consultants.

• PROJECT MANAGEMENT: Manage projects including costs, performance and spend against budget, quality, deadlines, delivery of reports, presentations and other deliverables. Review the progress of projects on a regular basis. Takes responsibility for delivery to client needs. Resolve technical and financial queries through consultation with project managers and technical managers where appropriate. Devise and selects most appropriate method of project delivery by considering implications. Prioritise work, defines and allocates tasks, regularly communicates and provides updates and direction by regularly meeting with the project team. Identifies shortfalls and allocates employees to available work ensuring the task met employee development needs.

• CLIENT CARE: Responsible for client care as required on projects (under instruction from the project director and manager). Client care to include communication of progress, complex issues and any financial arrangements. Ensure projects delivered are meeting the client’s needs.

• COMMERCIAL: Maintain senior level client contacts and negotiate and agrees commercial terms where appropriate, consulting with Project Managers on large scale projects. Support the CGM in the annual budgeting and planning process. Proactively seeks business development opportunities and develops these under guidance from Commercial Managers and Directors where appropriate. Highlight areas where actions/practices are not delivering value and seek to improve upon them. Take accountability for own performance and aim to achieve targets when set.

• TEAM WORKING: Encourage and motivate the team by supporting the CGM at team meetings. Support the Demonstrate commitment to the team by displaying a personal commitment and positive attitude at all times and acts as an ambassador for teamwork. Support the CGM in developing and facilitating development/career plans for team members. Support the CGM in identifying resource requirements and shortfalls.

EDUCATION & QUALIFICATIONS:

• Educated to degree level (or equivalent or be able to demonstrate equivalent level of understanding)

• Ideally hold a degree in a relevant science, planning or engineering field.

• Ideally hold membership of a professional institution

EXPERIENCE & SKILLS:

• Considerable relevant experience of managing single and multi-disciplinary projects.

• Previous consultancy experience preferred however experience in related sectors will be considered (e.g. development industry or regulatory).

• Experience should cover one or more of the following work areas; Sustainable development policy (writing and implementation), Sustainable construction, Sustainability Appraisal, Corporate Responsibility (including reporting and verification), Management Systems (including ISO14001, audits and training).

• Proven technical knowledge in one or more of the following specialisms: Sustainability policy (for national / local govt, Regional Assemblies, RDA's etc), Renewable energy in the built environment, Energy efficiency, Water efficiency, Materials specification, Design team advice

• Socio economic assessment, Sustainable business strategy and implementation, Training, Management System design, implementation, Sustainability benchmarking (Code for Sustainable Homes, BREEAM etc), Sustainability appraisal of projects and policy documents.

• A track record in business development activities is desirable.

• Highly developed written and verbal communication skills.

• Technical expertise in a main consultancy field.

• Project management skills.

• An ability to develop business including client care.

• Full Driving Licence

PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT:

The role offers an opportunity to help develop and mentor consultants within the team and develop new technical skills through working across a broad range of technical areas.

Specifically the successful applicant will help to deliver the emerging Sustainable Development and Regeneration business development plan with a particular focus on public sector frameworks. In addition there are significant opportunities to develop client relationships with both new and existing clients to help the group achieve the required levels of growth for 2008.
