Our client, a market leader with a very varied project portfolio have won several industry awards for their innovative thinking. They undertake work locally, regionally in the UK and internationally.They are seeking an economic analyst to work within their existing water and environment team from any of their offices throughout the UK.Preference is given to candidates willing to work in Birmingham. The team have a number of projects where economic analysis is important. The work might include:
Calculation of the economic level of leakage for water companies,
Assessing the economic cost of externalities (including environmental, social and carbon costs) for water resource and civil engineering projects,
Helping companies to include external costs within their long term planning
There are also other environmental specialists in other technical areas and there are likely to be opportunities to work on environmental impact assessments and environmental economics analyses in highways, rail and commercial developments.

Current work within the team includes integrated urban modelling, drainage area planning, feasibility and design studies, design of major flood and pollution alleviation projects for numerous clients, pilot research studies for Government bodies, new canal designs and economic assesments, clean water trunk main design and distribution main rehabilitation projects, hydraulic modelling of WwTW and sewerage systems, clean water DMAs and river flood risk assessments, design of river weirs, fish passes and overflow chutes and development of procedures and advisory services for water company clients.They have a wide range of clients from Water Plcs, developers, contractors and public bodies.
A higher degree in economics,science, engineering or other highly numerate subject and/or higher degree in water-industry related subject is needed.
You will also have at least five years experience in economic analysis, including the assessment of the costs of externalitieswith some understanding of the assessment of externalities in the water industry. The candidate must be highly numerate and able to use basic statistics, such as linear regression analysis. The candidate must be willing to learn fast to fill in gaps in knowledge and able to work independently within client offices where necessary.
Preferred: The candidate should preferably have a detailed knowledge of the regulation of the UK water industry, practical experience of the techniques used in assessing externalities in the UK water industry (especially in the development of new water resources) and an understanding of how to include costs of carbon in economic analysis.
It would be useful if you have experience of presenting in public forums such as conferences. Experience in economics research in the water industry would be also be useful.
