My clients Environmental Services team manages the companies property portfolio worldwide. This business includes a contaminated land consultancy and remediation contracting business dealing with internal and external customer sites.

They require a Geo-environmental/Remediation Consultant to join the team based in Hertfordshire carrying out a range of contaminated land assessment and remediation consultancy and contracting work.

Key responsibility areas:

Management of site assessment and remediation projects including:

- Assisting in the design, costing and preparation of desk study and site investigation proposals;

- Preparing all site management documentation (e.g. SHE plan, CDM Regs. Requirements) for site works ;

- Site visits and walkovers;

- Logging of soil samples to BS5930;

- Supervision of intrusive investigations;

- Assisting in the production of robust generic and site specific risk assessments for human health for a variety of contaminants using UK methodologies (e.g. CLEA and SNIFFER) as well as methodologies developed by others (e.g. RBCA and RISK) as necessary;

- Assisting in the production of tiered risk assessments for the water environment using the EA R&D 20 methodology as well as CONSIM as necessary;

- Factual and interpretative report production preferably including knowledge of foundation engineering and other related geotechnical aspects;

- Development of remediation options and costed remediation plans from site investigation and site assessment reports and data and preparation of remediation proposals;

- Obtaining regulatory approval of remediation plans;

- Preparing subcontract packages for tendering and managing the tender process;

- Project Management of remediation projects to ensure that projects are completed on time, within budget and to appropriate legislative requirements;

- Production of verification reports and gaining regulatory approval of these reports.

Contributing to ensuring that projects are completed on time, within budget and to appropriate SHE standards

Assisting with client retention and development

Computer literacy including a good knowledge of MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint or similar packages is essential. Additional information:

The role involves both technical and administrative functions. Office and field based work is required. The successful candidate should be able to work both within a team, with members of other teams as part of a multi-disciplinary project and on their own initiative. The person may have occasional responsibility for the management of others.

Experience:

The successful candidate will have experience of contaminated land consultancy and/or remediation projects and will be able to demonstrate experience in site assessment work and the development and implementation of site remediation strategies. In addition they will have experience in delivering quality factual and interpretative reports. It would be an advantage to have some experience in one or more of the following:

- Geotechnical investigations;

- Hydrogeological investigations;

- The development of remediation options;

- Working with one or more contamination risk assessment models;

- Discussing their reports with environmental regulators;

- Assessment and deployment of remediation technologies;

- Use of civil engineering model contracts;

- Development and/or management of civil engineering earthworks;

- Integration of remediation work with infrastructure installation and construction work;

- Methods used to manage the environmental impact of remediation works;

- Ecological management during remediation projects.
